Christmas Day 2010

Yappy Christmas everyone!

We hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas Day and Santa Paws came to all the good dogs.

We all went out the garden first thing, then there was breakfast and we had to wait ages for Daisy to finish hers before we could start opening the presents. Martini, of course, was giddy with excitement this morning and wanted to play with everything. Daisy received a little Santa toy from her friend Ben and of course Martini wanted to have that one too so there was a bit of pulling and tugging but Daisy won in the end.

We were all invited out for our Christmas lunch to friends who have a farm and we were treated to a wonderful lunch (with seconds of everything) so the only thing left to do, after we waddled home, is to cuddle up on the sofa and have a nap!

PS. We have posted of photo of Martini and Daisy with some of the presents they received this year - lucky little pooches!

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

We wonder if it can get any colder here in Cumbria as we all have our coats on every time we go outside! We had a very light dusting of snow today but we don't seem to have the amount of snow we had a few weeks ago. Martini loves the snow and loves playing in it.

It is only a few days until Christmas Day and this seems to come around faster each year. Martini has been very industrious helping Morag wrap presents for all our little four legged friends who have been to the salon during December as he thinks he needs to test all the toys before being wrapped to ensure they are good toys! Needless to say, he has been on the naughty step a few times for this - the sport of gift wrapping with a K9 handicap.

The draw for the raffle took place on Saturday and congratulations to Bailey and Riley who won first prize. Miss Petunia won second prize of a luxury gift set and Molly took the third prize of a pamper gift set. All the other prize winners have been contacted and/or received their prize already - thank you to everyone for taking part. We will make sure we have a photo of Bailey and Riley on the blog when they next come in for their hair appointment.
Today George and Ozzy came into the salon for their Christmas "do". Morag has a new gadget called a hammock where small dogs can be lifted from the table which enables doing their feet a lot easier and most dogs will just relax in it. It came time for George to go into the hammock and he did the sweetest doggie paddle with his front legs - it was so cute to watch when his Daddy came to pick him up we put George back in the hammock just to show him how sweet he looked - paddling and not going anywhere. This is something we will try and get a photo of when George next comes in for his hair appointment.

We have posted a photo of Martini in his scarf today and we hope you like the photo as you know how much Martini loves to pose for the camera.

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

We have had the first snowfall of winter and woke up to a winter wonderland early on Saturday morning. We were really impressed by all the clients who managed to make it to the salon for their hair appointments - so thank you for keeping your appointments.

It is certainly cold and Martini and Daisy have been wearing their coats to go outside especially for the early and late walks. Martini gets a bit giddy in the snow and loves running around enjoying it - Daisy is too mature for that sort of behaviour though. The first time Martini ever saw snow he ran around and around in a circle scooping the snow with his nose. We have posted a photo of Martini in the garden but he was having too much fun to pose for a photo for Morag.

According to the weather forecast we have more cold weather to come in the next week ahead - bbrrrr - so remember to wrap up warm and if you don't have a warm coat there are some for sale in the salon.

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

We have very cold weather moving in for the next 10 days - we don't mind the cold as long as it is sunny but remember to wrap up!

From 1 January 2011, the salon will be open all day from Wednesday to Saturday. It will still be best to make an appointment as some of our four legged friends are not as social as others! The salon is open all week from 20 December to Christmas Eve to ensure the four legged family members are looking their best for Christmas.

We just thought we would take this opportunity to remind everyone about our raffle taking place for Christmas. The raffle will be drawn on Saturday 18 December to allow time for everyone to collect their prize to put under the tree. We have included a photo of some of the prizes.

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

Another bonfire night has come and gone. This year was fairly quiet in our neck of the woods with Martini only barking a couple of times on Friday night for a couple of loud bangers. Daisy didn't seem to notice and didn't let the fireworks disturb her beauty sleep. We sometimes wonder if Daisy is slightly deaf but we think it is more a case of selective hearing. Martini has been to an actual firework display and only probably barked a couple of times because he was at home. We sincerely hope that none of our little four-legged friends were unduly upset and stressed by the occasion.

Autumn is such a lovely time of the year and although we have had what seems like a ton of rain in the last couple of weeks, the colours of the trees are magnificent. We decided to take a photo of Tini and Daisy sitting amongst the gorgeous leaves that fall from our cherry tree - unfortunately the photo doesn't do the colour of the leaves any justice! It is still fun to "swish" through the leaves though which gives you the Autumn feeling.

The temperature has definitely gone a gear downwards this weekend so hope you all manage to keep snuggled and warm as we head for winter.

Happy "Howlloe'en" Everyone from Morag, Martini and Daisy!

As you know, Martini loves posing in clothes so we thought we would treat him to his own "Howlloe'en" bonnet and we accordingly ordered a fetching pumpkin hat on the internet for him. Unfortunately, when the pumpkin hat arrived it looked more like a tomato hat but as you will see in his photo he wore it proudly and we just didn't have the heart to tell him otherwise! Not to worry, we have got him a cozy Christmas scarf from the Puppy Angel range (available in the salon) which really suits him and we will post that photo closer to Christmas.

Yesterday, Sam (Bichon) had his appointment in the salon and his family asked Toby to photograph him so they could upload the photo for a Christmas card. He is such a cute dog and Toby took loads of photos - we love the photo shoots as they are such fun to do. We had a little preview of a couple of the photos and we know his family will love the pictures too!

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy
It has been a beautiful day here in sunny Cumbria - a bit on the nippy side but still a lovely day. Our garden looked like it had snowed overnight with the thick frost but we all put our coats on so we were nice and cosy for our early morning walk. As it was a lovely sunny day we went for a local walk this afternoon on the the edge of the Lake District National Park. We always appreciate and know how lucky we are to live in such a lovely area of the world and are spoilt for choice when it comes to walks.

You will have seen a cute little Shih Tzu puppy called Harry who did some of the modelling on our boutique page. Harry's sister Tallulah also comes to the salon although she lives with a different family. On Friday this week we had two other little Shih Tzu puppies (Bailey and Riley) who are also 5 months old come along to the salon and it turns out that they are all siblings! Out of a litter of seven, we know four of the puppies and thought that was quite unusual. They are all so sweet and have great personalites. We will have to wait and see if the other three puppies arrive...!
We have posted a photo of Martini today so hope you like it - we think he is very photogenic.

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

We normally try to write our blog on Sunday but unfortunately ran out of time this week. Daisy and Martini needed a haircut each and as the weather was so nice we then went for a walk in the Lake District instead of the coast - not fellwalking we hasten to add as Martini would insist on being carried!

We have looked through our photos for another photo of Daisy and found one of her when we had a trip to Gairloch in North West Scotland during the Easter weekend. Martini and Daisy love beach holidays and there are some fantastic beaches in Scotland. We are often lucky enough to find we have the whole beach to ourselves. We hope you like the photo of Daisy we have posted today.

The photos of the models are now on the boutique page. All the models look gorgeous in their outfits so we were very pleased with the gallery.

We have put all the raffle prizes on display in the salon and although the plan was to put the tickets on sale from 18 October we have already sold some tickets. You are very welcome to come and view the prizes. Don't forget about Toby's special offer for a photo session - details are on the Yappy Christmas page!

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

If you read last week's blog, you will be aware of the photo shoot which involved the little models Harry, Jack, Ozzy, Ruby and Theo. Unfortunately, Toby the photographer(http://www.tjfphotography.co.uk/) who took the photos was called away from Cumbria all week but he is back now and has given us the photos for the website. As there were hundreds of photos taken on the day, the final photos had to be shortlisted. Morag phoned Ian (http://www.@cybercafe.co.uk/) who looks after the website and he said he would do the page by Tuesday. Morag will send text messages to the little models once she knows the photos are on the website. It is all so exciting and we can't wait all the models look fantastic!

Morag has sorted out all the prizes for the Christmas raffle. There are 10 great prizes in total; 1st prize is a pawtrait session with Toby, 2nd - luxury gift basket, 3rd - pamper gift basket, 4th - dental gel and fresh breath foam gift set, 5th - selection of Rachel Hale cards, 6th - Christmas glitter collar (one size), 7th - box of Wilson's chocolates for dogs, 8th - red paw print retractable lead, 9th - Puppy Angel bandana, 10th prize - Hollywood star collar charm. All the prizes are on display in the salon so good luck to everyone who buys a ticket!

Today we have posted a photo of Martini which Toby took for us. (Morag says you can always see the difference from her "snaps" and Toby's great photos!) By the way, Martini has settled down again after our little holiday - we think he just loved playing on the beautiful beach so much he didn't want to come home.

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

Yesterday we had a photo shoot at the salon for the boutique page of the website so we would like to give a big Bow Wow Thank You to all the models who generously gave their time to take part. The models were Theo, Ozzy, Jack, Ruby and Harry who were all beautifully behaved and a big thank you to their mummies and daddies for bringing them to the salon, we really appreciated it. An even bigger BOW WOW THANK YOU is in order for Toby (tjfphotography.co.uk) for taking the photos - we only saw a few of the photos yesterday but they are fantastic and we just can't wait to see them all as the little models looked fabulous in their outfits. We think we have found another model like Martini in Ruby who loves wearing clothes and loves to pose for the camera too.

An update on the Christmas raffle: one of Morag's friends suggested the draw for the raffle should be held earlier than 23 December as people are really busy making last minute preparations for Christmas. Taking this on board, we have decided to hold the raffle from 18 October to 18 December (which is the Saturday before Christmas Eve) this would allow more time for the winners to collect their prizes to put under the tree. We will put a new page on the website which will show photos of the prizes - the prizes will also be on show in the salon.

Today we have put on another photo of our little holiday which features only Daisy. As you all know, Daisy hates to pose for the camera so we have only a few photos of her - Morag took this one on the beach at Lossiemouth Bay so we thought we would post this one today with our blog.

As for Martini, he seems to have suffered from holiday blues - you know, where you feel sad when you get back from holiday. We thought there was something wrong with him but he is so dramatic we didn't know whether he was ill or not. Everyone who knows him, knows that drama is Martini's signature dish (which is served up on a regular basis) so we went for a walk at Silloth and he was back to his perky self, running around and looking really happy again. Daisy, on the other hand, is a real homebody and seems much happier back at home again.

PS. Models - check Toby's website (tjfphotography.co.uk) as he may put some photos from the photo shoot of you on his website too!

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

Today is a very special day as it is Daisy's anniversary of coming to stay with Morag and Martini and now she has been here in Cumbria for a whole year! Daisy instantly made herself at home with us and it feels like she has been with us forever.

We have been away to Lossiemouth in North East Scotland for a long weekend and had a fabulous time. Daisy doesn't travel well but she had a tablet to help her on the journey as it is 300 miles. We stayed in a lovely big caravan on a quiet site (www.directholidayhomes.co.uk/prop_ref_2661.html) at Lossiemouth Bay opposite East Beach. We did have to walk across a bridge to the beach and the first few times Daisy had to be carried over it as she was really scared but she saw that Martini was able to walk over so as long as we walked slowly she would walk over tentatively. We often had the beach completely to ourselves as you can see in the photos but judging by some of the footprints in the sand there must have be some giant dogs there too! On Tuesday morning we went to the beach very early because we were going to come home. Martini decided to chase a crow on the beach and every time he got tantalising close the crow flew a little bit further away but he didn't give up easily and ran after it a few times until he finally realised he was never going to get the crow. Martini and Daisy just loved the beach and galloped around chasing each other and looked really happy. Morag tried her best but could not get Martini and Daisy to look at the camera at the same time so she asked them to do a "down and wait" to try and get a photo - all those dog training lessons finally paid off! We had a great time and will definitely go again.

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

It has been another busy week ending with Martini going to see the tooth fairy on Friday and now has sparkly white teeth. We felt so sorry for him as he was very sleepy in the evening so he had an early night and was tucked in with a fleecy blanket.

On Saturday Molly (Labradoodle) from Cockermouth came in for a pamper session at the salon. Molly's mummy was telling Morag how they had to be rescued by boat during the floods last November. Molly and her family were rescued from their house - the water came in so fast the house was under 2ft of water within 20 minutes! As Molly's family had to stay in temporary accommodation, poor Molly had to stay with family friends until her family could move back into their house in July this year. Molly is such a sweetie though she must have been a very good house guest. Molly's photo will be in the regular section under M - Z and she is a black Labradoodle Molly with a pretty pink bow in her hair.

We thought we would feature the windows of the salon in our photo this week - we had the poodles put on the windows on 1 September (our anniversary day). We think they look great so we asked Toby (tjf photography.co.uk) to take some photos for us as Morag tried to take a photo to send to her mummy in South Africa but the picture is all wonky! A big Bow Wow thank you to Toby for taking the photo.

We have good news too for the Christmas raffle - Toby has agreed to donate a first prize of a pawtrait session! We will keep you posted but thought we would mention the raffle tickets would be on sale from 23 October until 23 December so prizes could be put under the Christmas tree. We realise it is a little early to speak about Christmas but time flies when you are chasing your tail!

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

Alfie (Labradoodle) was in the salon this week and his mummy told Morag that he had turned one the week before - Yappy Birthday Alfie! We also have to wish Molly (Labradoodle) a Yappy first Birthday too because they are brother and sister. Alfie and Molly live with different families and have not been in the salon at the same time but we think they are identical twins because they look exactly the same - their photos are on the website and we think you will agree. Archie (Shih Tzu) also had his birthday on 3 September - Yappy Birthday Archie!

Yesterday was the open day at the salon which was a tea party in celebration of the second anniversary and we had a great time. Thanks to those who came to the salon as it was lovely to see you. At one stage there was such a fluffy fest as apart from Martini and Daisy, there were also three Shih Tzus Theo, Charlie and Molly (Charlie and Molly are only a few months old) and 5 month old Cocker Spaniel Rocco (Fritha's dog). We think Rocco must have felt like a giant next to all the little fluffies. A big Bow Wow thank you to Fritha and Keita for baking yummy tasty treats (flapjacks, brownies, cookies, sponge cake) and Elizabeth Sewell for the yummy cheesecakes. Thank you also to our friends Gillian, Martyn and Jordan for sending flowers to us for the open day it was such a big surprise.

We all snuggled up on the sofa last night and went straight to sleep - it had been a long day which started with Martini and Daisy being bathed first thing so they could look their best. Morag ate far too much cake and drank too much tea all afternoon while Martini and Daisy were tired from having so many friends to play with and chasing each other around the car park. As a result of our fun day, we have decided to have a lazy Sunday.

As you know, it is hard to get photographs of Daisy so today we have attached a photo of Daisy and Martini both wanting to play with the same toy - as you can see this was a tug of war. There are occasions where, no matter how many toys we have, Martini and Daisy want to play with the same thing. This toy was a present at Christmas last year and it is a wonder it is still in one piece (although it has sewn it back together a few times).

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

It is only two days until September and we can't believe where the past year has gone. It will be the salon's second anniversary on 1 September and the open day will be held on Saturday 4 September between 1pm and 5pm - everyone is welcome so hope you can make it.

September has other anniversaries too - Morag has a birthday and according to Martini and Daisy she will be approximately 8 years old in dog years!

22 September is also a very special day as that is the day, one year ago, Daisy came to stay with Morag and Martini and those of you who know Martini know he is still a little bit jealous of Daisy. Undaunted, Daisy made herself completely at home and what a little sweetie pie she is too. Daisy didn't really eat very much and was very thin but all that changed with a trip to the vet where she had most of her teeth removed. A lot of people ask if she has difficulty eating, well worry not she loves to eat and would eat all of Martini's food too if allowed. Martini's nickname is Tini Bear so Daisy is called Gummy Bear!

Whilst looking through the photos we found one that Toby (tjf photography) took of Morag and Martini before the World Cup (remember that?) and thought it would be a fun photo to put on today's blog. Martini looked so cute in his England shirt and was ready to play with his ears in bunches!

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

We would like to wish Kizey a very yappy first birthday for 8 August – we still need to get a photo of Kizey on the regulars section so will definitely try and take a nice photo next time Kizey comes into salon . Enjoy being One Kizey!

The weather was lovely today (Sunday 22 August) so we had a trip to Silloth for a walk along the front. It was a bit windy but it was lovely having so much sunshine. Poor Daisy hates going in the car but she always loves walking along the front and she forgets about the car for a little while.
Jack came to the salon yesterday to pick up his beautiful framed pawtrait which he won in the raffle from Skelton Show. His mummy was very pleased with the photo and we have to say Jack looked stunning! Thanks again to Toby of tjf photography for donating such a great prize. We were thinking of having another raffle in time for Christmas so we will see if we can get Toby to donate another pawtrait as a prize – we will keep you all posted.

It is just under two weeks until the open day which is going to be held on Saturday 4 September between 1pm and 5pm. Everyone is welcome so please feel free to come along for tea and cake (homemade). If you haven’t been to the salon since we moved it would be lovely to see you again and if you have never been before then feel free to come and have a look around – the more the merrier!

We have added an action photo of Martini today. Toby (of course) took this lovely photo of Martini in full flight. We love the way Toby can capture Martini – there are some photos where Martini looks like a cloud he is so fluffy!

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

We wanted to wish Theo (Shih Tzu) a very Yappy Birthday for 31 July – Theo is a big boy now he has turned One! Jack (Lhasa Apso) very Yappy Birthday – Jack will be 2 years old on 11 August and not forgetting Martini who will be 4 years old on 13 August. If we don’t have a note of your birthday, ask your mummy or daddy to let Morag know so you can have a mention in the birthday list.

We had our photo taken when Jack came to have his pawtrait taken by Toby of tjf photography a couple of weeks ago so we have included the photo today. (Jack won first prize in the raffle at Skelton Show.) We had a great afternoon with Jack and as you can see from the photo it was a fluffy fest!

We have introduced a reward scheme: if you recommend a friend and your friend subsequently comes to the salon for an appointment you will receive a FREE gift by way of a thank you. Don’t forget to tell Morag and you will receive your free charm.

If you cannot bring your dog to the salon we have introduced a collection and delivery service for small companion breeds (eg Yorkie, Lhasa, Shih-Tzu etc). There will be a small charge for this service and you are welcome to contact Morag to discuss your requirements. Details will be on the home page.

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

This month we have a very special yappy birthday in that Martini is going to be 4 years old on 13 August. Yappy Birthday Martini!

If you have seen the home page on the website you will have noticed the banner announcing our Open Day on Saturday 4 September. As it will be Doggy Doo’s second anniversary on 1 September we thought it would be fun to have an Open Day. The salon will be open from 1pm to 5pm and we will be serving tea and cake or water and biscuits – whichever you prefer. Everyone will be given a warm welcome whether you want to just come and view the salon for the first time or you are one of our regular clients we would love you to come and see us. We will write another blog closer to the time. We hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you there.

We have posted an interesting photo of Daisy today. It is always so hard to get photos of Daisy as she doesn’t like to have her photo taken and is not a “poser” like Martini. The photo of Daisy was taken by Toby of tjf photography and was taken, of course, when Daisy was completely unaware. We thought we would share the photo and hope you like it too.

July 2010 Update

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy

Prize winner Jack Nixon came to the salon on 17 July. Jack won first prize in the raffle we had at Skelton Show on 3 July. Jack had only been adopted a few weeks before the raffle by Ann and Ian Nixon of Carlisle. Jack is a very sweet little Lhasa Apso and has found a lovely family to live with. After some persuasion, Morag managed to convince Ann to be in the photo because it is always nice to know who won First Prize. Toby from tjf photography came to speak to Ann to arrange when Jack’s “pawtrait” will be done so he kindly offered to take our photo for the dog blog too – thank you Toby! So, from left to right it is Ann Nixon, Jack and Morag – as you can see we were all laughing at the time including Jack.

Another prize winner came to the salon on the same day. Inca and her mummy Frances Brown came in to collect their prize of the “Wild Thing” collar and lead set. Inca had a haircut and pamper session too and will be a regular visitor to the salon so we will put her photo on the regulars section of the Scruff to Buffed page. Inca appears to be a cross between a Jack Russell and a Lhasa and is another little sweetie!

As the raffle was very popular we have decided to hold a raffle before Christmas. We thought we would put the tickets on sale at the end of October/beginning of November and hold the draw on 23 December so the prize winners would have their prize in time for Christmas to put under the tree.

July 2010

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy.

July has been a very busy month so far. Daisy had her 5th birthday on 1 July - Yappy Birthday Daisy – she had a lovely day which consisted of presents, eating, sleeping and “mooching” around the garden.

On 3 July we had a stand at Skelton Show. Thank you to everyone who came to visit our stand. We made lots of new four legged friends who came to enjoy a drink on what turned into a very warm day. Our friend Fritha and her family came to give us a hand and we really couldn't have managed without them. This is a little bit like the Oscars but we really wanted to take the time to thank a few people. Thank you to Gillian, Martyn and Jordan for lending us their gazebo. Thank you to Jean, Gary and Pip for lending us their table. A great big Bow Wow thank you to Fritha, Toby, Keita and Sol who gave up their whole Saturday to help us and even helped in advance of the show with various jobs. Fritha suggested we travel to show in their VW campervan “Rudi” and thank goodness we did – we managed to fit Fritha's family of four, the three of us and then all the equipment and boxes too!

We had all had a lovely day and Martini and Daisy even took part in the dog show. Toby of tjf photography took a photo of Morag and Martini in the dog ring and he took some other photos too. Why don't you click the link to his website on the “Pawtraits” page and see if your photo is there?

Congratulations to Jack Nixon (Lhasa Apso) from Carlisle who won first prize in the raffle. We will post a photo after Jack comes to the salon on 17 July. Congratulations to all the other prize winners – we hope you enjoy your prizes.

News Flash – a cat has been in the salon! Skye came in for dematting so we took his photo and will post it on the regulars section of the website.

Hello from Morag, Martini and Daisy - welcome to our new Dog Blog page!

We thought this page could cover any upcoming events at the salon and also an opportunity to wish some of our regular 4 legged friends a very yappy birthday! On 3 July we will have a stand at the Skelton Show so if you are at the show please come and say hello – there will be water bowls (if you are thirsty) and poo bags (just in case you’re caught short). We also plan to do a raffle with fantastic prizes. The prizes will be displayed in the salon in advance of the show so feel free to pop in and have a look.

So for June Morag, Martini and Daisy would like to wish a very “YAPPY BIRTHDAY” to Oscar, George, Henry and Woody. We hope your birthday is filled with fun and treats!

With the World Cup coming up, we ordered some of the England Football shirts from Puppy Angel and these are for sale in the salon. They are made from 100% football strip fabric and are really well constructed and finished. Toby from tjf photography took some stunning photos of Martini in his football shirt so these are below for you to see. We think he looks incredibly cute – he got to keep the football prop which he loves chasing around the garden. If you are wondering where Daisy is – she wasn’t left out at all, Daisy doesn’t like to pose for the camera and photos of Daisy are taken when she isn’t really looking. Martini on the other hand loves to pose and loves the attention. We were truly stunned when Martini sat with his paw on the ball! We hope you like the photos.
